SB. 12.13.13: Translation:
"If on the full moon day of the month of Bhadra one places Srimad Bhagavatam on a golden throne and gives it as a gift, he will attain thesupreme transcendental destination".
Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada's Purport:
One should place Srimad-Bhagavatam on a golden throne because it is the king of all literature. On the full-moon day of the month of Bhadra, the sun, which is compared to this king of literatures, is present in the constellation Leo and looks as if raised up on a royal throne. (According to astrology, the sun is said to be exalted in the sign of Leo.) Thus one may unreservedly worship Srimad-Bhagavatam, the supreme divine scripture.

Srimad Bhagavad Gita AS IT ISBhagavad Gita: Chapter 1
Observing the Armies on the Battlefield of Kuruksetra

pravrtte sastra-sampate
dhanur udyamya pandavah
hrsikesam tada vakyam
idam aha mahi-pateWORD FOR WORD
atha--thereupon; vyavasthitan--situated; drstva--looking upon;
dhartarastran--the sons of Dhrtarastra; kapi-dhvajah--he whose flag
was marked with Hanuman; pravrtte--while about to engage;
sastra-sampate--in releasing his arrows; dhanuh--bow;
udyamya--taking up; pandavah--the son of Pandu (Arjuna);
hrsikesam--unto Lord Krsna; tada--at that time; vakyam--words;
idam--these; aha--said; mahi-pate--O King.TRANSLATION
At that time Arjuna, the son of Pandu, seated in the chariot
bearing the flag marked with Hanuman, took up his bow and prepared
to shoot his arrows. O King, after looking at the sons of
Dhrtarastra drawn in military array, Arjuna then spoke to Lord
Krsna these words.PURPORT by Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada:
The battle was just about to begin. It is understood from the above
statement that the sons of Dhrtarastra were more or less
disheartened by the unexpected arrangement of military force by the
Pandavas, who were guided by the direct instructions of Lord Krsna
on the battlefield. The emblem of Hanuman on the flag of Arjuna is
another sign of victory because Hanuman cooperated with Lord Rama
in the battle between Rama and Ravana, and Lord Rama emerged
victorious. Now both Rama and Hanuman were present on the chariot
of Arjuna to help him. Lord Krsna is Rama Himself, and wherever
Lord Rama is, His eternal servitor Hanuman and His eternal consort
Sita, the goddess of fortune, are present. Therefore, Arjuna had no
cause to fear any enemies whatsoever. And above all, the Lord of
the senses, Lord Krsna, was personally present to give him
direction. Thus, all good counsel was available to Arjuna in the
matter of executing the battle. In such auspicious conditions,
arranged by the Lord for His eternal devotee, lay the signs of
assured victory.Copyright 1983 The Bhaktivedanta Book Trust International. Used with permission.

Prabhupada Uvacha:
(here's some nectar, sometimes it comes in the form of Srutakirti prabhu's
diary, other times from Govinda dasi's diary, or sometimes from a letter,
but still nectar...)
October 26
Prabhupada decided that he would take makaradhvaja
only once a day for a while and observe the effect. Prabhupada said his
father also used to take makaradhvaja. "Svarna-sindhu is another preparation
which is cheaper."
Svarupa Damodara received a telegram informing
him of the passing away of his grandfather and requesting his presence
for the sraddha ceremony, especially as there were no other senior members
of the family. He approached Srila Prabhupada and said, "I do not know
if it is proper. My grandfather has expired. May I take leave?" Prabhupada
answered by citing the verse from Srimad-Bhagavatam, "Devarsi bhutapta...:
Those who are engaged in Krsna's service have no necessity for such things.
Anyone who is fully engaged in Krsna's service has no other duty. He is
no longer anyone else's servant because he has taken shelter of the ultimate
Supreme Person. The sraddha ceremony is not required for a devotee fully
surrendered at the lotus feet of Krsna. Now whatever you want to do...."
Svarupa Damodara heard these good instructions
and looked towards me. I confirmed his decision not to go.
Prabhupada: I am persevering, but where is March?
I want to stay but circumstances differ. Don't give me any medicine. Simply
chant and parikrama.
During the night Hari-sauri Prabhu informed Srila Prabhupada of the death of Samjata in Bhubaneshwar. Hari-sauri inquired whether dying in the dhama guaranteed that one will go back to Godhead. Srila Prabhupada replied, "At least you get many years in the heavenly planets." He quoted relevant verses from the Sixth Chapter of Bhagavad-gita.

Caitanya Caritamrta Adi 1.15
Mayapur, March 4, 1975
Listen to the entire lecture on-line:

Nitai: "Glory to the all-merciful Radha and Madana-mohana! I am lame and ill advised, yet They are my directors, and Their lotus feet are everything to me."
Prabhupada:
jayatam suratau pangor
mama manda-mater gati
mat-sarvasva-padambhojau
radha-madana-mohanau
[Cc. Adi 1.15]
This is the surrendering process of the author, Kaviraja Gosvami. Before beginning to write Caitanya-caritamrta, he submitted himself to the lotus feet of Madana-mohana. (aside:) That child may be... So he is submitting that Radha-Madana-mohana... Those who have gone to Vrndavana, they have seen the temple of Radha-Madana-mohana. That was established by Sanatana Gosvami, the first disciple of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Sanatana Gosvami established this Madana-mohana temple, and Rupa Gosvami established that Govindaji's temple, and the Jiva Gosvami established Radha-Damodara temple. Gopal Bhatta Gosvami established Radha-Ramana temple. In this way, in Vrndavana there are seven temples authorizedly established by the Gaudiya-sampradaya, Caitanya Mahaprabhu's sampradaya. Later on, many big, big kings and zamindars, landlords, they also established many temples, big, big temples. And altogether, there are five thousand temples in a small city like Vrndavana, and thousands of men go to see the Deities in every temple almost every day, and especially during the four months Sravana, Bhadra, Asvina, Karttika: July, in July, August, September, October. So Vrndavana is always crowded by many pilgrims, and anyone who goes there, immediately he feels spiritual consciousness, especially nowadays.
So the Gaudiya Vaisnava especially... Gaudiya Vaisnava means the followers of... [break] ...Mahaprabhu. There are four Vaisnava sampradaya originally: from Lord Brahma, Brahma-sampradaya; and from Lord Siva, Rudra-sampradaya; and from goddess of fortune, Laksmi, Sri-sampradaya; and from the catuh-sana, four kinds of sanas, Sanat Kumara, Sananda, like that. So the four sampradaya is coming from time immemorial. So we belong to the Brahma sampradaya, the Gaudiya-sampradaya. Sampradaya means just like there are political parties, but their aim is to develop the country, nation's interest, although... Just like in your country there are political parties, Democratic parties. What other parties?

SRILA PRABHUPADA'S QUOTE OF THE DAY
Every disciple should always remain busy in
some
work for Krishna. We shall not allow to remain
vacant our mind, and if the mind is always
filled
up with Krishna Conciouness activities, there
is no chance of Maya to sit on the mind and

Shrimad-Bhägavatam is the essence of all Vedic literature.
It is the ripened fruit of the desire tree of Vedic knowledge. It
has been sweetened by emanating from the mouth of Sukadeva Gosvämi.
O thoughtful men, who relish transcendental mellows, always taste
this fully ripened fruit. As long as you are aspiring to be absorbed
in the transcendental bliss derived from the Lord's loving service,
you should continue tasting Shrimad-Bhägavatam even after liberation.

"In the revealed scriptures, the ultimate object of knowledge is Shri Krishna, the Personality of Godhead. The purpose of performing sacrifice is to please Him. Yoga is for realizing Him. All fruitive activities are ultimately rewarded by Him only. He is supreme knowledge, and all severe austerities are performed to know Him. Religion [dharma] is rendering loving service unto Him. There are many varieties of scriptures, and in all of them there are many prescribed duties, which can be learned only after many years of study in their various divisions. Therefore, O sage, please select the essence of all these scriptures and explain it for the good of all living beings, that by such instruction their hearts may be fully satisfied.

In response to those who want/demand to see the Lord:
"By intense service of the Lord, one can experience the presence of the Lord transcendentally. Therefore seeing the Lord means being engaged in His service because His service and His person are identical." (Srimad Bhagavatam. 1:6:22)

Lord Krsna is arranging everything according to what we desire and what we deserve. If we serve Lord Krsna via the process of devotional service, we become free from the material entanglement and become happy; otherwise, we remain in the material world and become implicated in Krsna's maya via the laws of karma.
"We should give up all our tiny efforts to defy the arrangement
of Krsna. Instead whatever arrangements He proposes, we should accept.
This is always better, for this will make us happy. The more we try to
defeat the arrangement of Krsna, the more we become implicated in Krsna's
maya."

"IN EVERY TOWN AND VILLAGE the chanting of the Holy Name of Krishna shall be heard. This was the forecast made by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu almost 500 years ago in India. Today, as the Hare Krishna Mantra -- Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare -- resounds in Bombay and New York, Nairobi and Sydney, and in Paris and Hong Kong, the prophecy of Lord Caitanya stands fulfilled. The universal import of this "Samkirtan Movement" (the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord) was expressed by Lord Caitanya as follows:
"Glory to the Sri Krishna Samkirtan which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years together. Thus the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death, is extinguished. The Samkirtan Movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction Moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge, it increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it helps us to have a taste of the full nectar for which we are always anxious."

Agama Tantra and the Vaishnava Samskaras
as a way of life:
Recently I was asked, "Don't you find it an inconvenience to always be checking to see when is the right time to do this or the best time for that?"
In simple terms my answer was and still is; if you go to the bus or railway station or airport it is probably an intelligent venture to enquire about the times and routes of vehicles than to just hope that one will be along soon, or one is going in your direction.
There are subtle influences in the Universe that, for thousands of years gone by, advanced cultures have honoured, respected and utilised. Before the corruption of the Vedik literatures by the Christian and Moslem invaders to India all these things were used; Ayurvedik Medicine; Vedik Astrology; etc. Today there's a rennaisance among many to revive these arts.
We have been trained and studied to be able to provide these services. See some of my sites:

"The religious principles taught by Mohammed and Jesus Christ are similar to the religious principles taught by Vaishnava sects. Buddhism and Jainism are similar to Saiva-dharma. This is scientific consideration of truths regarding religious principles. Those who consider their own religious principles as real dharma and others religious principles as irreligion or subreligion are unable to ascertain the truth due to being influenced by prejudice. Actually religious principles followed by people in general are different only due to the different qualifications of the practitioners, but the constitutional religious principles of all living entities are one." A Muslim priest at a Hindu temple
http://www.nri-worldwide.com/cgi-local/ts.pl?action=fetch&area=happensonlyinindia&o=5
Ghulam Mohammed has proved that religions are just a means to reach the Almighty. He is perhaps the only Muslim in the Gulmarg area of who is known to serve as a priest at a Hindu temple.
Mohammed, a devout Muslim, who practices Hindu rituals with equal ease, says that he believes in the oneness of God. "I reach the temple by six in the morning and leave by nine. And I read Namaaz also...I do not have any problems and there are no restrictions. I just have to work for God. I believe God is one. I only want to pray, whether it is a temple or mosque," he said.
He has been practising as a Hindu priest for the last 15 years.
Hindu devotees said they were awe-struck when they came to know that the temple's priest was a Muslim. "It's really good...we were amazed to hear him reciting hyms and verses with such perfection and ease. We believed he was a Hindu, but felt very nice to know later that he is a Muslim," said Ram Kumar, a Hindu devotee.
"I have never seen any temple where the priest is a Muslim. I have been to so many temples in Kolkata also. But having a Muslim as a priest in Hindu temple, is like strengthening ties between the two religions," Dipankar Malik, a tourist from Kolkata said.
Mohammed says that his Muslim background has also helped him protect the temple in the past from Islamic militants in the disputed region.
Report dated August 24, 2004
Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakur comments that saralata, or simplicity, is the first qualification of a Vaisnava, whereas duplicity or cunning behaviour is a great offense against the principles of devotional service. As one advances in Krsna consciouness, one must gradually become disgusted with material attachment and thus become more and more attached to the service of the Lord. If one is not factually detached from material activities but still proclaims himself advanced in devotional service, he is cheating. No one will be happy to see such behavior.
Cc. Antya 2.117, purport. Quoted from Sri Krsna Kathamrta Vol.2 No.1

Thinking about the virtues and faults of this world, some moralist monotheists concluded that this material world is not a place of unalloyed pleasures. Indeed, the sufferings outweigh the pleasures. They decided that the material world is a prison to punish the living entities. If there is punishment, then there must be a crime. If there were no crime, then why would there be any punishment? What crime did the living entities commit?
Unable to properly answer this question, some men of small intelligence gave birth to a very wild idea. God created the first man and placed him in a pleasant garden with his wife. Then God forbade the man to taste the fruit of the tree of knowledge. Following the evil counsel of a wicked being, the first man and woman tasted the fruit of the tree of knowledge, thus disobeying God's command. In this way they fell from that garden into the material world filled with sufferings. Because of their offense, all other living entities are offenders from the moment of their birth. Not seeing any other way to remove this offense, God Himself took birth in a humanlike form, took on His own shoulders the sins of His followers, and then died.
All who follow Him easily attain liberation, and all who do not follow Him fall into an eternal hell. In this way God assumes a humanlike form, punishes Himself, and thus liberates the living entities. An intelligent person cannot make sense of any of this.
To accept this mixed-up religion one must first believe these rather implausible things: "The living entity's life begins at birth and ends at death. Before birth the living entity did not exist, and after death the living entity will no longer stay in the world of material activities.
Only human beings have souls. Other creatures do not have souls." Only extremely unintelligent persons believe this religion. In this religion the living entity is not spiritual in nature. By His own will God created the living entities out of matter. Why are the living entities born into very different situations? The followers of this religion cannot say. Why is one living entity born into a house filled with sufferings, another living entity born into a house filled with joys, another living entity born into the house of a person devoted to God, and another living entity born into a wicked atheist's house? Why is one person born in a situation where he is encouraged to perform pious deeds, and he performs pious deeds and becomes good? Why is another person born in a situation where he is encouraged to sin, and he sins and becomes bad? The followers of this religion cannot answer all these questions. Their religion seems to say that God is unfair and irrational.
Why do they say that animals have no souls? Why do birds and beasts not have souls like human beings? Why do the human beings have only one life, and, because of their actions in that one life are rewarded in eternal heaven or punished with eternal hell? Any person who believes in a truly kind and merciful God will find this religion completely unacceptable. The followers of this religion have no power to worship God selflessly.
In general their idea is that by cultivating fruitive work and speculative philosophy one should work to make improvements in the material world and in this way please God. By building hospitals and schools, and by doing various philanthropic works, they try to do good to the world and thus please God.
Worship of God by performing fruitive work (karma) and by engaging in philosophical speculation (jnana) is very important to them. They have no power to understand pure devotional service (suddha-bhakti), which is free of fruitive work and philosophical speculation. Worship of God done out of a sense of duty is never natural or unselfish. "God has been kind to us, and therefore we should worship Him." These are the thoughts of lesser minds.
Why is this not a good way to worship God? Because one may think, "If God is not kind to me, then I will not worship Him." In this way one has the selfish, bad desire to get God's kindness in the future. If one wishes that God will be kind by allowing one to serve Him, then there is nothing wrong with that desire. But the religion under discussion does not see it in that way. This religion sees God's kindness in terms of one's enjoying a happy life in this material world.

Max Muller the great mis-representer of Vedik Culture:
MAX MULLER'S LETTER: Personal letters give a true picture of the writer's inner mind. A person expresses his inmost feelings in the letters which he writes to his intimate relations and friends. Such letters are very helpful in estimating his real nature and character. Fortunately, a collection called the 'Life and Letters of Frederick Max Muller' has been published in two volumes. A few extracts from those letters would suffice to expose the mind of the man who is held in great esteem in the West for his Sanskrit leaning and impartial judgement.
(i) In a letter of 1866 A.D. (V Sam, 1923) he writes to his wife: 'This edition of mine and the translation of the Veda will hereafter tell to a great extent on the fate of India, .....it is the root of their religion and to show them what the root is, I feel sure, is the only way of uprooting all that has spring from it during the last three thousand years.'(Vol. 1., Ch. XV, Page 346.).
(ii) Max Muller grew so insolent and audacious that he started to challenge
Indians in a direct foolhardy manner. It is clear from a letter written
by him to N.K. Majumdar:
'Tell me some of your chief difficulties that prevent you and
your countrymen from openly following Christ, and when I write to you I
shall do my best to explain how I and many who agree with me have met them
and solved them........ From my point of view, India, at least the best
part of it, is already converted to Christianity. You want no persuasion
to become a follower of Christ. Then make p your mind to work or yourself.
Unite your flock - to hold them together and prevent them from straying.
The bridge has been built for you by those who came before you. STEP BOLDLY
FORWARD, it will break under you, and you will find many friends to welcome
you on the other shore and among them none more delighted that you old
friend and fellow labourer F. Max-Muller.'(Vol. II., Ch. XXXIV., pages
415-416.)
Herein Max Muller claims to know 'the true historical value' of Vedic religion, but our history is going to expose the hollowness of the learning and scholarship which he and his colleagues boast of possessing.
V. WEBER'S BIAS: At the time when Max Muller was busy besmirching the
glory of Bharatiya literature and religion in England, Albert Webber was
devoting himself to the same ignominious task in Germany. We have already
referred to the unstinted praise of the Bhagavad Gita by Humboldt. Weber
could not tolerate this. He had the temerity to postulate that the Mahabharata
and Gita were influenced by Christian thought. Mark what he writes:-
'The peculiar colouring of the Krsna Sect, which pervades the
whole book, is noteworthy: Christian legendry matter and other Western
influences are unmistakably present........
The view of Weber was strongly supported by two other Western
scholars, Lorinser and E. Washburn Hopkin. Yet the view
was so blatantly absurd that most of the professors in European universities
did not accept it in spite of their Christian leanings. But the propagation
of this wrong view played its mischief and was mainly responsible for the
hesitation of the Western scholars (including the antagonists) to assign
to the Mahabharata a date, earlier that the Christian era.
WEBER AND BANKIM CHANDRA: I am not alone in holding this view.
This is what Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyaya, the well known Bengali scholar, has to say about Weber in his Krishnacharita, 4th chapter:- 'The celebrated Weber was no doubt a scholar but I am inclined to think that it was an unfortunate moment for India when he began the study of Sanskrit. The descendants of the German savages of yesterday could not reconcile themselves to the ancient glory of India. It was therefore, their earnest effort to prove that the civilisation of India was comparatively of recent origin. They could not persuade themselves to believe that the Mahabharata was composed centuries before Christ was born'.
WEBER AND GOLDSTUCKER: Weber and Boehtlingk prepared a dictionary of
the Sanskrit language called the 'Sanskrit Worterbuch. Prof. Kuhn was also
one of their assistants. Being mainly based on the wrong and imaginary
principles of philology, the work is full of wrong meanings in many places
and is, therefore, unreliable and misleading. It is a pity that so much
labour was wasted on account of sheer prejudice. Th dictionary was subject
of severe criticism by Prof. Goldstuker which annoyed the two editors.
Weber was so much upset that he stooped to use abusive language of the
coarsest kind against Prof. Goldstucker. He said that the views of
Prof. Goldstucker about the Worterbuch showed 'a perfect derangement of
his mental faculties', since he did not reject the authority
of the greatest Hindu scholars freely and easily. Replying to their undignified
attacks Prof. Goldstucker exposed the conspiracy of Professors Roth, Boehtlingk,
Weber and Kahn which they had formed to undermine the greatness of ancient
Bharatvarsha. He wrote:
'It will, of course, be my duty to show, at the earliest opportunity,
that Dr. Boehtlingk is incapable of understanding even easy rules of Panini,
much less those of Katyayana and still less is he capable of making use
of them in the understanding of Classical texts. The errors in his department
of the Dictionary are so numerous........ that it will fill every serious
Sanskritist with dismay, when he calculates the mischievous influence which
they must exercise on the study of Sanskrit philology'.
He further remarks: '....that questions which ought to have been decided with the very utmost circumspection and which could not be decided without very laborious research have been trifled with in the Worterbuch in the most unwarranted manner.'
Goldstucker was called upon by one of Boehtlingk's men not only to have
respect for 'the editor of Panini.....'(i.e. Boehtlingk) but even for the
hidden reasons for foisting on the public his blunders of ever kind.
We know that there were no other 'hidden reasons' than their
Christian
and Jewish bias which impelled them to suppress the correct information
of the Hindu grammarians and underrate and vilify Aryan civilisation and
culture, and at the same time to serve as tools of the British Government
towards the same end.
Professor Kuhn, who 'gave his opinion on the Worterbuch' was 'an individual
whose sole connection with Sanskrit studies consisted in handling Sanskrit
books to those who could read them, a litery naught, wholly unknown, but
assuming the airs of a quantity, because it had figures before it that
prompted it on, a personage who, according to his own friends, was perfectly
ignorant of Sanskrit'. Provoked by the unwarranted flouting of the authentic
Hindu tradition, Professor Goldstucker was compelled to raise his 'feeble
but solitary voice' against the coterie of mischievous propagandists masquerading
under the garb of 'scientific' scholars. He concludes his laborious work
with the following significant remarks:
'When I see that the most distinguished and most learned Hindu
scholars and divines - the most valuable and sometimes the only source
of all our knowledge of ancient India - are scorned in theory, mutilated
in print, and, as consequence, set aside in the interpretation of
Vaidik texts; .......when a clique of Sanskritists of this description
vapours about giving us the sense of the Veda as it existed at the commencement
of Hindu antiquity; ......when I consider that those whose words apparently
derive weight and influence from the professional position they hold; ........then
I hold that it would be a want of courage and a dereliction of duty, if
I did not make a stand against these Saturnalia of Sanskrit Philology.
VI. MONIER-WILLIAMS: who revealed the real object of the purpose of
the establishment of the Boden chair, thus delivers himself:- 'Brahmanism,
therefore, must die out. In point of fact, false ideas on the most ordinary
scientific subjects are so mixed up with its doctrines that the commonest
education - the simplest lesson in geography - without the aid of Christianity
must inevitably in the end sap its foundations.'
'When the walls of the mighty fortress of Brahmanism are encircled,
undermined, and finally stormed by the solders of the cross, the victory
of Christianity must be signal and complete.'
Therefore we are justified in drawing the conclusion that his
book, 'The Study of Sanskrit in Relation to Missionary work in India' (1861
A.D. London) was written with the sole object of promoting Christianity
and ousting Hinduism. Inspite of this some of our Indian Sanskrit scholars
call these Europeans scholars, unbiased students of Sanskrit literature,
whose sole aim has been to aquire knowledge for its own sake.
Again, expressing his deep rooted veneration for the Bible, Monier-Williams
writes:- '....the Bible, though a true revelation.'
VII. RUDOLF HOERNLE: Rudolf Hoernle was the Principal of Queen's College,
Banaras, in Samvat 1926. At that time Swami Dayananda Saraswati, who later
on founded the Arya Samaja happened to reach Banaras for the first time
for the propagation of his mission. Dr. Hoernle met Swami Dayananda on
several occasions. He wrote an article on /Swamiji from which the
following extract is noteworthy,
because it reveals the real intention of many European scholars who
take to study of Sanskrit and ancient scriptures of Bharatvarsha. Hoernle
says:-
'.......he (Dayananda) may possibly convince the Hindus that
their modern Hinduism is altogether in the opposition to the Vedas.......
If once they became thoroughly convinced of this radical error, they will
no doubt abandon Hinduism at once...... They cannot go back to the Vedic
state; that is dead and gone, and will never revive; something more or
less new must follow. We hope it may be Christianity,.......'
VIII RICHARD GARBE: was a German Sanskritist, who edited many Sanskrit works. Besides these, in 1914 he wrote a book for the missionaries, entitled 'Indien und das Christentum'. His religious bias is quite evident in the book.
IX WINTERNITZ: The pride of the superiority of their own philosophy
and religion and of the infallibility of their own conclusions has become
so ingrained in the above-mentioned type of Western Sanskrit scholars that
they feel no hesitation in giving expression to it brazen-facedly before
the public. Reverent admiration of the philosophy of the Upanishads by
Schopenhauer, often quoted by Bharatiya writers, ranked in the heart of
the Europeans, and as late as A.D. 1925 Prof. Winternitz thought it incumbent
on him to denounce the sincere and heartfelt views of Schopenhauer in the
following words:- 'Yet I believe, it is a wild exaggeration when Schopenhauer
says that the teaching of the Upanishads represents 'the fruit of the highest
human knowledge and wisdom' and contains 'almost superhuman conceptions
the originators of which can hardly be regarded as mere mortals.......'
Not content with his invective against the Upanishads he had
the audacity to deprecate even the greatness of the Vedas by saying:-
'It is true, the authors of these hymns rise but extremely seldom
to the exalted flights and deep fervour of, say, religious poetry of the
Hebrews.'
This vilification did not remain confined to Sanskrit scholars alone,
but through them it percolated into the field of Science. Not knowing a
word of the exact and multifarious scientific knowledge of the ancient
Hindus, Sir William Cecil Dampier writes:
'Perhaps the paucity of Indian contribution to other sciences
(the Philosophy and Medicine) may in part be due to the Hindu religion.
The climax of hatred against Hinduism is seen in the highly mischievous
and provoking remarks like the following even in popular literature:-
(a) 'The curse of India is the Hindoo religion. More than two hundred million people believe a monkey mixture of mythology that is strangling the nation.' 'He who yearns for God in India soon loses his head as well as his heart.'
(b)Prof. McKenzie, of Bombay finds the ethics of India defective, illogical and anti-social, lacking any philosophical foundation, nullified by abhorrent ideas of asceticism and ritual and altogether inferior to the 'higher spirituality' of Europe. He devotes most of his book 'Hindu Ethics' to upholding this thesis and comes to the triumphant conclusions that Hindu philosophical ideas, 'when logically applied leave no room for ethics'; and that they prevent the development of a strenuous moral life.'
It is a matter of serious mistake on the part f a Government which is
anxious to win the friendship and sympathy of Bharat to allow such heinous
type of literature as Ripley's to be published. And again, it is a matter
of regret that such books, whether published in India or abroad, are not
taken notice of by our politicians and have not been banned by our National
Government. Not only is our Government indifferent to the interdiction
of such slanderous literature, but even our Universities not only prescribe
but recommend for higher study books on Bharatiya history and culture written
by foreign scholars who lose no opportunity of maligning our civilisation
openly or in a very subtle way.
Remarks like those of McKenzie on the ethics of a country from
whose Brahmanas the whole world learnt its morality and rules of conduct,
are nothing short of blasphemy and national insult. The irony of the situation
is that, instead of being condemned such persons receive recognition and
honour from our educationists and political leaders.

One night a man had a dream.
He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, one belonging to him, and the other belonging to the Lord.
When the last scene of this life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints.
He noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it.
Lord, you said that once I decided to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You most, You would leave me.
The Lord replied "My son. My precious child, I love you and would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

We've just released our list of WVD events around the country, you are welcome to spread this as widely as you want, it's on this webpage - there's a special category for it:
http://www.i-send.info/Host/10/index.html
You'll also notice that for October we have a book sale of our Living a Good Life book, and it is ideal for vegetarian families - it covers pregnancy, childcare and the teen years, not to mention adults and the elderly. We've just reprinted more copies as a result of recent demand, and these are selling well, with the proceeds going to vegetarian products including a farm animal sanctuary down our way. It would be great if you could promote the book - if you are willing to do that I can send you a complimentary copy... just a thought.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Sriman Ekendra prabhu, and Srimati Seva-kunj mataji had a son, named Sukha-sindhu dasa on the 17th September 2004, mother and baby (and father) are well.
It also gives me great pleasure to announce that Sriman Satrughna prabhu and Srimati Radhe Shyam mataji in Sydney gave birth to a daughter also on the 17th Sept 2004. Satrughna prabhu wrote, "Mirabai Lily was delivered. 3.44 kg (7lb 9oz) Healthy, Happy & Strong. Tired Parents.".
"Sucinäm Shrimatäm gehe. So this child is born of a devotee father and devotee mother. Now he’ll again begin from the point where he lost last life. Suppose Krishna consciousness he executed fifty percent. So he’ll begin from this life fifty-one percent. That fifty percent was in his stock. But ordinary karmis—cent percent lost. He has to begin another chapter of life according to his karma." (Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. 17th July 1971. Lexture in Detroit.)
"There are two kinds of children born of good fathers: one is educated in Krishna consciousness so that he can be delivered from the clutches of mäyä in that very life, and the other is a ray of the Supreme Personality of Godhead and teaches the world the ultimate goal of life." (Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. 8th August 1976. Srimad Bhagavatam class SB 3:22:19. Tehran, Iran)
Lord Sri Krishna says in Bhagavad Gita 7:11.

SYNONYMS
balam—strength; bala-vatäm—of the strong; ca—and; aham—I am; käma—passion;
räga—and attachment; vivarjitam—devoid of; dharma-aviruddhah—not against
religious principles; bhüteshu—in all beings; kämah—sex life;
asmi—I am; bharata-rishabha—O lord of the Bhäratas.
TRANSLATION
"I am the strength of the strong, devoid of passion and desire. I am
sex life which is not contrary to religious principles, O lord of the Bhäratas
[Arjuna]."(B.G. 7:11.)
"Kandarpa is the sex desire for presenting good sons; therefore Kandarpa is the representative of Krishna. Sometimes sex is engaged in only for sense gratification; such sex does not represent Krishna. But sex for the generation of good children is called Kandarpa and represents Krishna." (Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada. Bhagavad Gita 10:28 purport.)
