TRANSLATION
That which pervades the entire body you should know to be indestructible. No one is able to destroy that imperishable soul.
PURPORT by HDG Srila A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada:
This verse more clearly explains the real nature of the soul, which is spread all over the body. Anyone can understand what is spread all over the body: it is consciousness. Everyone is conscious of the pains and pleasures of the body in part or as a whole. This spreading of consciousness is limited within one's own body. The pains and pleasures of one body are unknown to another. Therefore, each and every body is the embodiment of an individual soul, and the symptom of the soul's presence is perceived as individual consciousness. This soul is described as one ten-thousandth part of the upper portion of the hair point in size. The Svetasvatara Upanisad (5.9) confirms this:
balagra-sata-bhagasya
satadha kalpitasya ca
bhago jivah sa vijneyah
sa canantyaya kalpate"When the upper point of a hair is divided into one hundred parts and again each of such parts is further divided into one hundred parts, each such part is the measurement of the dimension of the spirit soul." Similarly the same version is stated:
kesagra-sata-bhagasya
satamsah sadrsatmakah
jivah suksma-svarupo 'yam
sankhyatito hi cit-kanah"There are innumerable particles of spiritual atoms, which are measured as one ten-thousandth of the upper portion of the hair."
Therefore, the individual particle of spirit soul is a spiritual atom smaller than the material atoms, and such atoms are innumerable. This very small spiritual spark is the basic principle of the material body, and the influence of such a spiritual spark is spread all over the body as the influence of the active principle of some medicine spreads throughout the body. This current of the spirit soul is felt all over the body as consciousness, and that is the proof of the presence of the soul Any layman can understand that the material body minus consciousness is a dead body, and this consciousness cannot be revived in the body by any means of material administration. Therefore, consciousness is not due to any amount of material combination, but to the spirit soul. In the Mundaka Upanisad (3.1.9) the measurement of the atomic spirit soul is further explained:
eso 'nur atma cetasa veditavyo
yasmin pranah pancadha samvivesa
pranais cittam sarvam otam prajanam
yasmin visuddhe vibhavaty esa atma"The soul is atomic in size and can be perceived by perfect intelligence. This atomic soul is floating in the five kinds of air (prana, apana, vyana, samana and udana), is situated within the heart, and spreads its influence all over the body of the embodied living entities. When the soul is purified from the contamination of the five kinds of material air, its spiritual influence is exhibited."
The hatha-yoga system is meant for controlling the five kinds of air encircling the pure soul by different kinds of sitting postures--not for any material profit, but for liberation of the minute soul from the entanglement of the material atmosphere.
So the constitution of the atomic soul is admitted in all Vedic literatures, and it is also actually felt in the practical experience of any sane man. Only the insane man can think of this atomic soul as all-pervading visnu-tattva.
The influence of the atomic soul can be spread all over a particular body. According to the Mundaka Upanisad, this atomic soul is situated in the heart of every living entity, and because the measurement of the atomic soul is beyond the power of appreciation of the material scientists, some of them assert foolishly that there is no soul. The individual atomic soul is definitely there in the heart along with the Supersoul, and thus all the energies of bodily movement are emanating from this part of the body. The corpuscles which carry the oxygen from the lungs gather energy from the soul. When the soul passes away from this position, the activity of the blood generating fusion ceases. Medical science accepts the importance of the red corpuscles, but it cannot ascertain that the source of the energy is the soul. Medical science, however, does admit that the heart is the seat of all energies of the body.
Such atomic particles of the spirit whole are compared to the sunshine molecules. In the sunshine there are innumerable radiant molecules. Similarly, the fragmental parts of the Supreme Lord are atomic sparks of the rays of the Supreme Lord, called by the name prabha, or superior energy. So whether one follows Vedic knowledge or modern science, one cannot deny the existence of the spirit soul in the body, and the science of the soul is explicitly described in the Bhagavad-gita by the Personality of Godhead Himself.

Prabhupada Uvacha:
(here's some nectar, sometimes it comes in the form of Srutakirti prabhu's
diary, other times from Govinda dasi's diary, or sometimes from a letter,
but still nectar...)
And in Hell, There Are No Newspapers!
As a young brahmacari in a young ISKCON movement,
Tamala Krsna asked Srila Prabhupada, "What is it like in the spiritual
word, in Krsnaloka?"
Prabhupada replied, "There are no draft boards
there." The devotees laughed at Prabhupada's witty pertinence. Srila Prabhupada
then told a story about a Christian missionary preaching among coal miners.
The missionary began a fire-and-brimstone speech by telling the miners
that a sinful person would have to go to hell and could only be saved if
he surrendered to Jesus Christ.
On hearing the name Jesus Christ, one of the
miners asked, "What is his number?" Since everyone in the mining company
was assigned a number, the miners could not imagine Jesus Christ being
anyone other than a mine worker.
The missionary tried again, by describing the
misery of hell.
"Hell," he said, "is very dark and damp."
The miners looked back at the missionary without
concern. His description of hell sounded just like the mine, which they
already knew. Then the missionary understood that he was preaching to people
with a very limited conception of reality, so he would have to address
their actual experience.
"And in hell," he said, "there are no newspapers!"
"Oh, horrible! Very frightening!" the miners
exclaimed.
Srila Prabhupada's joke made the devotees laugh,
and they also appreciated that a preacher has to think carefully when addressing
an audience and speak according to time, place, and circumstance. But personally,
for Tamala Krsna and the other young men, it was also a great relief to
think that there was a spiritual world where they would not be in anxiety
about being drafted into the army.

" Scriptural Test For Avatar "
Caitanya Caritamrta Madhya 20.353-354
New York, December 26, 1966
Listen to the entire lecture on-line:
http://prabhupadavani.org/Caitanya_Caritamrta/RamFiles/CC63.ram
Prabhupada:
sarvajna munira vakya-sastra-'paramana'
ama-saba jivera haya sastra-dvara 'jnana'
We should always think that we are in the modes of ignorance. We are just trying to make progress from ignorance to goodness and then transcend. This is the process of spiritual realization. Nobody should think that we are perfect. We cannot be. God is... Only God is perfect, and we are all imperfect. Even our so-called liberated stage, we are still imperfect. Therefore one has to take shelter of authority because, constitutionally, we are imperfect. Lord Caitanya says, ama-saba jivera haya sastra-dvara 'jnana'. So therefore, for real knowledge, we have to consult the scriptures, sastra. Sadhu-sastra-guru. Sadhu means pious, religious, honest person. Sadhu, whose character is spotless, he's called sadhu. Sastra means scripture, and guru, guru means spiritual master. They are on the equal level. Why? Because the medium is scripture. Guru is considered to be liberated because he follows the scripture. Sadhu is considered to be honest and saintly because he follows scripture. Sadhu-sastra-guru-vakya. Nobody can become a sadhu if he does not accept the principles of scripture. Nobody can be accepted as guru, or spiritual master, if he does not follow the principles of scripture. This is the test.
tad-vijnanartham sa gurum eva abhigacchet
samit-panih srotriyam brahma-nistham
[MU 1.2.12]
Srotriyam, srotriyam means one who has accepted the Vedic literature, the sastra, scripture, as the guidance, he can be... Not a extravagant upstart, he makes some group and religious principle of his own and become a guru. No, no, he'll not be...
So Lord Caitanya advises... Sanatana Gosvami's inquiry is how to know that he, here is a avatara. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu says the medium is sastra, and direction is the guru. Sastra also we cannot understand any book, what to speak of the scripture. Sometimes we find contradiction in the scripture. That is not contradiction; that is my poor fund of knowledge. I cannot understand; therefore assistance of guru, a spiritual master, is required. So far incarnation is concerned, here Lord Caitanya says that we have to see through the sastra whether a person is incarnation or not. We should not blindly accept anybody as incarnation because there are, nowadays, numberless incarnations.
avatara nahi kahe-'ami avatara'
muni saba jani' kare laksana-vicara
This is another significance of incarnation. Incarnation never says that "I am incarnation of God." I have read one book about a big avatara in India. He was canvassing his students, "Do you now accept me as incarnation? Do you now accept me as incarnation?" And the... Perhaps you know. (laughs) And the disciple was denying, "No." Then, at a time the disciple said, "Yes, I accept you." So this is not avatara. Here Caitanya Mahaprabhu says avatara does not canvass that "I am..." Guru does not canvass. Sadhu does not canvass. He automatically, by his qualities, he becomes accepted. Yes.

SRILA PRABHUPADA'S QUOTE OF THE DAY
Sometimes a person, the proprietor of the house, after death, remains in that house as serpent, sometimes as dog, sometimes as tree. Being too much attached to the possession, they cannot get better life. And sometimes we can get the body of a hog and monkey in Vrndavana also.

"Krsna consciousness is already there in the core of everyone's heart.
But because of our materially conditioned life, we have forgotten it. The
process of chanting the Hare Krsna maha-mantra -- Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna,
Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare / Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare --
revives the Krsna consciousness we already have. For example, a few months
ago these American and European boys and girls did not know about Krsna,
but just yesterday we saw how they were chanting Hare Krsna and dancing
in ecstacy throughout the whole Ratha-yatra procession. Do you think that
was artificial? No. Artificially, nobody can chant and dance for hours.
They have actually awakened their Krsna consciousness by following a bona
fide process."

"The Lord in the temple in the worshipable form is never to be considered to be made of stone or wood, for the Lord in His arca incarnation as the Deity in the temple shows immense favor to the fallen souls by His auspicious presence. By the hearing process, as mentioned hereinbefore, this realization of the presence of the Lord in the temple is made possible."

By the mercy of Govardhana Hill these ten beautiful verses about Govardhana Hill, which grant residence at Govardhana Hill, have come from the mouth of a blind old man. The pleasure of Govardhana Hill, which is my life and soul, and which is a beautiful jewel-mine of transcendental virtues, is the ripe fruit I seek from my labor in writing these verses.
Chapter 3
1 Govardhana Hill is like a flag of intense sweetness placed in the
opulent land of Vrndavana. As the king of mountains Govardhana Hill
offers very pleasing royal service to the young prince of Vraja.
2 The rocks of Govardhana Hill are many kinds of splendid jewels that
provide thrones, couches, and other kinds of furniture for Sri Krsna, the
supreme monarch of all nectar mellows.
3 Govardhana Hill's beautiful forests and caves are Krsna's nectar
pastime palaces, each one perfect for the supreme good fortune of His beloved
and Her friends.
4 Govardhana Hill's trees and vines serve Sri Krsna by offering Him
blossoming branches with sweet fruits, and flowers filled with honey, nectar
and fragrant pollen.
5 The red, vermilion, yellow and other coloured pigments of Govardhana
Hill decorate Lord Krsna's transcendental body for the pleasure of His
beloved gopis.
6 The musk left by deer, as well as the kunkuma, camphor, and aguru
naturally produced by Govardhana Hill, were all used to give a sweet fragrance
to the transcendental body of Lord Krsna.
7 There is a pleasant grove of sandalwood trees on Govardhana Hill.
Although snakes generally flock to sandalwood trees, no snakes ever come
here, or if sometimes a snake may come it is not poisonous, or if sometimes
a poisonous snake may come its poison is automatically counteracted, and
it can do no harm. As the best servant of Lord Hari, Govardhana Hill
has made this wonderful arrangement for the Lord's pleasure.
8 One time a contrary fawn-eyed gopi left Sri Krsna. A short
time afterwards She saw a snake on the road. Frightened, She took
shelter of Lord Krsna, embracing Him and begging for protection.
As Lord Hari's best servant, Govardhana Hill made all these nectarean arrangements
for His pastimes.
Note: This verse may also be translated in the following way:
Rejected by a certain contrary fawn eyed gopi, Sri Krsna said: "I have
just been bitten by one of Govardhana Hill's snakes". When the gopi
heard this, she became repentant and came before the Lord with many apologies.
As Lord Hari's best servant, Govardhana Hill made all these arrangements
for His pastimes.
9 The rocks of Govardhana Hill are all precious gems. Some are
sapphires, some emeralds, some rubies or crystals. They provide the
perfect backdrop for Lord Krsna's pastimes.
10 If, while walking on Govardhana Hill, Krsna's elder brother Balarama
sees a series of golden stones, He thinks: 'the daughter of King Vrsabhanu
must have just now walked before Me', and He changes course to avoid an
awkward situation. In the same way, if She sees a series of crystal
stones, She thinks: 'Balarama must have just now walked before Me', and
She changes Her course.
11 If, on Govardhana Hill, which is the best of Lord Hari's servants,
Sri Krsna sees a golden stone, He takes it to be His beloved. In
the same way, His beloved sees a sapphire, She assumes it is Her lover.
12 The gopis' necklaces, ornaments, red foot cosmetic, betelnuts, and
other paraphernalia gaze on the beauty of Govardhana Hill's groves and
caves. Who would not become enchanted by the beauty of Govardhana Hill?
13 Sri Krsna is the sapphire and the gopis the golden necklaces ornamenting
Govardhana Hill. The pastimes of Krsna and the gopis are the sons
and daughters of Govardhana Hill. Who is able to describe the glories
of Govardhana Hill?
14 The peacocks dance enthusiastically, the bees and cuckoos sing melodiously
and may other birds chirp a rhythmic accompaniment, as they all gaze on
the serve to Lord Hari done by Govardhana Hill, the best of Lord Hari's
servants.
15 The land around Govardhana Hill in all directions is filled with
many lakes, groves, and other charming places of Lord Krsna's pastimes.
Many lovely streams flow from Govardhana Hill onto these lands in all directions.
16 To the east is Dana-nivartana-kunda. When Sri Radhika's handsome
beloved remembers it, He begins to tremble, and the hairs on His body stand
erect.
17 To the east of that is Candra-sarovara, where the divine couple
enjoyed many rasa dances. The memory of this place makes Them dance
in ecstatic love.
18 Southeast of Govardhana Hill is Sanksarsanananda-sarovara, and to
the east of that is Gauri-tirtha, which is scrupulously avoided
by Gauri's husband, Lord Siva.
19 The nectar flood of supreme good fortune rising from His eternal
pastimes with Her has made Her beloved supremely learned in the philosophy
of forest-pastimes.
20 In between Sankarsana-sarovara and Dana-nivartana-kunda is Anandaraja-tirtha,
where the Mahanna-kuta festival delighted the young prince of Vraja.
21 West of that are two splendid places in the mouth of Krsna's pastimes.
They are Sri Dhana-ghata and Sri Sumani-ghata, where the divine couple
playfully talked and joked.
22 At this place the divine couple enjoyed the playful quarrel pastimes
known as dana-keli. Who would not be astonished by this pastime?
When this pastime enters the ears it makes both the body and mind dance.
23 Govardhana Hill resembles a gigantic peacock that has Govinda-kunda
as its tail. The Manasa-ganga, where the divine couple eternally
enjoys boat-sailing pastimes, enters into the waters of Govinda-kunda.
24 If one hears about the divine couple's boat-sailing pastimes, he
will become stunned in ecstasy and it will not be possible for him to stop
hearing about them.
25 On the Manasa-ganga's shores are many madhavi-vine pavilions with
nectar beauty that shines in the three worlds. There the divine couple
enjoys splendid pastimes that are eternally remembered in the world's hearts.
26 With its nearby forest groves and the limitless nectar-trickling
flowers in its waters, Kusuma-sarovara shines with great splendour.
Is it the handsome face of Govardhana Hill, the king of mountains?
27 This lake is known as Kusuma-sarovara because of the many blossoming
flowers, destined to become gopis in the future, that grow in its waters.
Simply by one bathing in this Kusuma-sarovara, Narada Muni attained a gopi-form.
This fact is directly confirmed in the words of the enchanting Supreme
Personality of Godhead.
28 The Supreme Personality of Godhead eternally enjoys pastimes on
Govardhana Hill. He personally lifted Govardhana Hill with His own
hand to protect His cowherd associates. Who is able to describe the
glories of Govardhana Hill, the best of Lord Hari's servants?
29 Radha-kunda and Syama-kunda are Govardhana's two love-filled eyes.
Because it nourishes the gopas, gopis, and surabhi cows with Lord Madhava's
sweetness, it shines with the name 'go-vardhana'.
30 Syama-kunda and Radha-kunda are two great floods of the nectar of
beauty. They are two great oceans of splendour. They are two
beautiful roots from which sweet devotional service grows.
31 They are two jewel-mines of love. They are two seeds from
which grow the jewel-vines of transcendental pastimes. How did they
become two splendid and nectar-sweet lakes?
32 By seeing these two lakes, Radha and Krsna believe They are present
in them. It is as if They directly see each other there. The
wise say that by approaching these lakes one directly approaches Radha
and Krsna.
33 Longing to meet, but forced to remain separate, Radha and Krsna
assumed the forms of Radha-kunda and Syama-kunda. In this way They
becomes splashed with the nectar of meeting each other.
34 I think that when Radha saw Krsna She melted with ecstasy and thus
assumed the liquid state of the waters of Radha-kunda, and in the same
way when Krsna saw Radha He also melted in ecstasy and became the waters
of Syama-kunda. In this way these two lakes bear the names and qualities
of the divine couple.
35 Out of great kindness to the people, so they could directly taste
Their sweetness, Radha and Krsna have become these two lakes. Shining
with happiness, the devotees bathe in these two lakes.
36 I think these two lakes are the divine couple's love. They
who are fortunate bathe there. Because bathing there is like bathing
in Their transcendental love, these two lakes bear the names of the divine
couple.

"IN EVERY TOWN AND VILLAGE the chanting of the Holy Name of Krishna shall be heard. This was the forecast made by Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu almost 500 years ago in India. Today, as the Hare Krishna Mantra -- Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare -- resounds in Bombay and New York, Nairobi and Sydney, and in Paris and Hong Kong, the prophecy of Lord Caitanya stands fulfilled. The universal import of this "Samkirtan Movement" (the congregational chanting of the Holy Names of the Lord) was expressed by Lord Caitanya as follows:
"Glory to the Sri Krishna Samkirtan which cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for years together. Thus the fire of conditional life, of repeated birth and death, is extinguished. The Samkirtan Movement is the prime benediction for humanity at large because it spreads the rays of the benediction Moon. It is the life of all transcendental knowledge, it increases the ocean of transcendental bliss, and it helps us to have a taste of the full nectar for which we are always anxious."

Agama Tantra and the Vaishnava Samskaras as a way of life:
Recently I was asked, "Don't you find it an inconvenience to always be checking to see when is the right time to do this or the best time for that?"
In simple terms my answer was and still is; if you go to the bus or railway station or airport it is probably an intelligent venture to enquire about the times and routes of vehicles than to just hope that one will be along soon, or one is going in your direction.
There are subtle influences in the Universe that, for thousands of years gone by, advanced cultures have honoured, respected and utilised. Before the corruption of the Vedik literatures by the Christian and Moslem invaders to India all these things were used; Ayurvedik Medicine; Vedik Astrology; etc. Today there's a rennaisance among many to revive these arts.
We have been trained and studied to be able to provide these services. See some of my sites:

"The religious principles taught by Mohammed and Jesus Christ are similar to the religious principles taught by Vaishnava sects. Buddhism and Jainism are similar to Saiva-dharma. This is scientific consideration of truths regarding religious principles. Those who consider their own religious principles as real dharma and others religious principles as irreligion or subreligion are unable to ascertain the truth due to being influenced by prejudice. Actually religious principles followed by people in general are different only due to the different qualifications of the practitioners, but the constitutional religious principles of all living entities are one." New Zealanders Celebrate the Festival of Lights
http://www.nzherald.co.nz/storydisplay.cfm?storyID=3605888&msg=emaillink
AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND, November 1, 2004: Thousands of people from many cultures helped Auckland's Indian community celebrate Deepavali yesterday in the Town Hall and outside on Queen St. A constant stream of people moved from the Town Hall, where music, dance, art and a fashion show provided most of the entertainment, to Queen St where a stage was set up for a Bollywood dance competition. Outside there were numerous food stalls. But revellers did not stay long in one place. The path into the Town Hall was just as busy. The celebration, also know as the Festival of Lights signifying a renewal of life, was put on through a partnership between the Auckland City Council and the Asia 2000 Foundation. Organizers said more than 40,000 people attended last year's event and hoped for 60,000 by the end of the celebrations last night. Deepavali is a Hindu festival that is now celebrated around the world. It is a demonstration of India's many subcultures
Yesterday's Auckland celebration showed it is a powerful force for unity among cultures. A dance troop from India, the Rangla Punjab Cultural Youth Club, has been in the country for 10 days, courtesy of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations and Asia 2000. It performed in Wellington for its Deepavali celebration last week and yesterday in Auckland. The traditional folk group made up of mainly university students performed during the day and helped wind up celebrations before a fireworks finale in Queen St. The group has performed in nearly 20 countries and is heading to Fiji and Australia - for more Deepavali celebrations.

MALAYSIA, October 24, 2004: Deepavali, the Festival of Light, brings joy, happiness and prosperity to every Hindu home. It is on this auspicious day--on November 11 this year--that the Goddess of wealth, Devi Mahalakshmi, is said to visit people's homes. To show respect to the Goddess, it is important that the home be prepared properly, says Star columnist T. Selva. According to Vasthu Sastra, homeowners should begin preparing their homes at least two weeks before the festival. This is because a house that is not well kept will not receive any blessings from the Goddess of wealth--and such places will not receive positive energy, Selva continues.
The first thing to do is ensure the house is not damaged and that its ceiling and roof tiles are in good condition, and there are no leaking pipes or cracks in the walls. After repairing the faults, the home owner should make sure cobwebs, dirt and dust are removed from the walls, ceilings and corners of the house. Next, remove broken and unwanted items. These include all disused, cracked or broken items, like mirrors, shoes, furniture, toys and old clothes. On Deepavali eve, homeowners should welcome the triumph of good over evil by cleaning their homes. The entire house must be scrubbed and washed thoroughly with water, which is the cleansing agent of Vasthu. Following this, draw the kolam (rice flour pattern) portraying devotional themes on the sidewalk and doorstep of the house to further enhance the merry-making mood. The traditional art signifies beauty, gratitude and sacrifice in every facet of our lives. Deepavali is represented by fire, which is one of the five elements, according to Vasthu Sastra, and the most powerful carrier of our messages and prayers to the cosmic forces. The essence of Deepavali is to light up the house with oil lamps throughout the day to protect the property against darkness and evil--in Vasthu, light signifies goodness.
Selva has been invited to present a talk on Vasthu Sastra for harmonious living and world peace at the Well-being Show in London on November 7 at the Royal Horticultural Hall. The four days of talks, workshops and exhibitions will bring together over 50 experts from all over the world to discuss subjects related to metaphysics, ancient sciences, alternative healing and self healing. Over 10,000 visitors are expected. For more of Selva's Deepavali preparations, click on "source" above.

Vegetarians in Britain will Benefit from Stricter Labelling
The Times Newspaper (London)
LONDON, ENGLAND, October 18, 2004: According to the article, Britain now has four million vegetarians and the market for this segment of the population generates over US$1.5 billion a year. With this in mind, the Food Standards Agency has been lobbying with supermarkets and manufacturers to establish rules for labelling vegan and vegetarian foods. Within a year the agency hopes to institute an amiable solution for both parties. Presently there is a label called "suitable for vegetarians." However, the article points out that many foods that are labelled suitable for vegetarians are not acceptable. The article explains, "Often a product may not contain an animal ingredient, yet its formation depends on an industrial process that uses animal or fish extracts. Many yoghurts and ice-cream, for example, contain animal gelatin, which is produced by boiling the skin, bones, fats and tissue of cattle and pigs. This can even be used to remove sediments in fruit juices. Yet this information is rarely provided on labels." However, spokeswoman for the British Retail Consortium suggests that the proposed rules may be too strict and says, "Trying to bolt on extra issues to dietary definitions would simply add extra layers of bureaucracy for retailers and restrict choice for the majority of consumers." Norman Baker, the Liberal Democrat environment and animal welfare spokesman, says, "The Food Standards Agency needs to recognize that this is a real problem. We have a range of products that are notproperly labelled. Many people would be appalled if they were eating any meat product in a food." The Food Standards Agency agrees by stating, "The presence of processing agents derived from animals on a food labelled suitable for vegetarians is against the rules, and companies could face legal action by Trading Standards."

LEICESTER, UK, October 26, 2004: With the flick of a switch, 6,000 bulbs will illuminate this city to mark the start of one of the biggest Deepavali celebrations outside of India. More than 70,000 people are expected to attend official events in this Asian dominated city over two days beginning October 31. The switch-on will follow a ceremony with cultural entertainment, music and dancing that starts in Belgrave Road, at 6 p.m. Councillor Piara Singh Clair, the Lord Mayor of Leicester, is the guest of honor and will turn on the illuminations. He said: "I am really delighted to be chief guest at this year's Deepavali celebrations. "Deepavali is an opportunity for all cultures to come together. It is a time for family and friends to share and enjoy. I am very proud of Leicester's Deepavali celebrations." Maganbhai Patel, president of the Leicester Hindu Festival Council, said: "We are very proud to have been at the heart of this event for more than a decade. Deepavali celebrations here are the biggest outside the Indian subcontinent, and attract visitors to our city from across the world.
This year's official Deepavali firework celebrations are being sponsored by Alliance & Leicester, a finance major. The celebrations come after students, staff and parents at Abbey Primary School and Community centre enjoyed Raas and Garba dancing last week. Children of all ages dressed in colorful costumes enjoyed dancing to music provided by the Shivranjini group on the first day of Navratri.

Brazil: A Preaching Revolution
Author: ekendra
Dated: Monday,

By Lilananda Dasa, Lalita Priya Devi Dasi, and Bhakta Ivan Salles
Posted October 27, 2004 on dipika.org (click here for pictures) http://www.dipika.org/2004/10/31/27_preaching_revolution_in_brazil/index.html
"Brazil?" you ask. "Where is Brazil on the map, anyway?" Well, you will be hearing more from us from now on. There is a preaching revolution going on in Brazil, perhaps the greatest, most significant ISKCON has seen since the 60s and 70s.
Nando Reis, a famous Brazilian singer inspired by George Harrison, has taken Krishna consciousness and the chanting of Hare Krishna to a level never heard before. Below are some statistics that will give you a glimpse of this Krishna consciousness revolution in Brazil:

1. Brazil is famous worldwide for its soap operas. These soap operas are dubbed in several languages and broadcast in many countries. There is a new soap opera being televised six days a week on Globo, the main television network in Latin America. The soap opera is Começar de Novo ("New Beginning"), and it is watched by more than 71 million Brazilians of social classes ABCD and E, including children, teenagers, adults, and seniors. The amazing thing is that the Mahamantra, sung by Nando Reis accompanied by His Holiness Chandra Mukha Swami and 11 other Vaishnavas, is part of this soap opera's sound track. It is presented as a song called "Mantra."
2. What's more, Começar de Novo is reaching 52 percent of the women age 25 and older in class C. And the Mahamantra is sometimes heard more than once on an episode.
3. Começar de Novo captured 38 points in audience rating in Brazil and 63 percent of all the televisions sets, thus consolidating leadership in its category and show time. This means that six days a week during evening prime time, for every ten television sets in Brazil, six are tuned in to Começar de Novo. This audience of more than 70 million has listened to the Mahamantra at least 49 times since the soap opera started seven weeks ago.
4. Other television shows such as Altas Horas ("Late Nights") are also broadcasting Nando Reis and his Hare Krishna friends chanting the Mahamantra. Since Altas Horas opened, on October 14, 2000, it has averaged seven points in audience rating and 40 percent in the national market. Its nationwide audience exceeds four million. Nando and the Hare Krishnas chanted Hare Krishna on the show last Saturday, October 23.
5. MTV Brazil, the hottest Brazilian Music television network among ages 10 to 50, has recorded Nando Reis and the Hare Krishnas chanting "Mantra" live and is broadcasting it every day.
6. "Mantra" is also playing daily on radio stations across the country, and the DVD and CD are being sold in thousands of music stores and on internet sites across Brazil.
7. "Caldeirão do Hulk," a television show with almost seven million viewers from ages 12 to 49 in social classes ABCD and E, has also featured Nando and the Hare Krishnas.
8, Public Concerts: Nando Reis, Chandra Mukha Swami, and eleven other devotees performed live this past weekend at the Canecao in Rio de Janeiro, Rio's equivalent to New York's Madison Square Garden, and there are many other concerts scheduled throughout Brazil.
And there is much more. Television stations are visiting the Sunday feast at several of the more than 25 ISKCON temples in Brazil to learn more about the Hare Krishnas. People are stopping devotees at malls, on the streets, and in public places. "I have seen you on TV," they say. "Where are you located? I want to learn more."
It is simply, without exaggeration, the biggest Hare Krishna revolution we have ever seen.
Stay tuned. There is more coming ...

Pelvic Priesthood
Eugene Weekly typifies the collapse of the ideals of the liberal/progressive
movement into the wreckage of personal gratification of the sexual entitlements.
You claim not to accept sexual advertising. The abortion work and lesbian
monologue of Shelly Sheklow is sexual advertising incarnate.
The U.S. inflicts upon an impoverished and poisoned world a demented militarism, unusually cruel war-making and insane materialism with its rampant environmental devastation, largely without protest because the liberal progressive movement has substituted the selfishness of sexualism for true political activism.
Eugene Weekly champions the falsehood that morality is synonymous with hate and sexual entitlement with selfless service. Just the opposite is closer to the truth. Morality informed by conscience is active compassion, and social service of lasting value is never about sexual or material gratification. Regardless of changing customs, all sexuality is inveterately self-centered, and selfishness is the cause and not the solution to human suffering.
You have surrendered the ideals of pacifism and material simplicity to follow the pelvic priesthood. In the service of an open dialogue, I challenge you to print the enclosed essay, "Autodeism, Hefnerism and the Pelvic Priesthood" albeit heresy, against cults of personal gratification which you so slavishly admire, or share this article's address: www.winfinity.com/beachwalla/adh.htm (Website no longer available)

Some time back I found something interesting in Mahanidhi swami's book G . V. Samadhis on page 94 regarding the most prominant instructions cited by Jagannath dasa Goswami it mentions there.
Never forget Gaura who is more merciful and benevolent than Krsna.
Krsna is like a just ruler who takes into account your offences in his administration of justice . Gaura does not take into account your offences.
Whereas, Krsna is more interested in the dispensation of justice, Gaura
is more interested in the distribution of mercy.
From this point of view, Gaura- Kirtan is more useful than Krsna -
Kirtan.
Gaura Kirtamn means : Sri Krsna Caitanya, Prabhu Nityananda, Sri Advaita,
Gadadhara, Srivasidi, Gaura Bhakta Vrnda.
Krsna is the Avatara of Dvapara- Yuga. Gaura is the Kali yuga avatara.
We should sing the name and glories of the avatara in whose age we live;
just as in a kingdom we praise the ruling king." Jai Sacinandana Gaura
Hari, Jaya Sacinandana Gaura Hari
I thought you might find this interesting It seems to be that there are many angles of vision to the reflected rays of the Daimond like holy names.

Vegan CEO Offers Meat-Free Cafeteria
http://www.nytimes.com/aponline/national/AP-FIT-Vegeteria.html
ROANOKE, VIRGINIA, October 31, 2004: For telephone company CEO Norm Mason, a vegan and lifelong animal lover, there was never any doubt what he'd offer at his company cafeteria. Soy steaks and soy sloppy joes, veggie burgers, nachos and other meatless, eggless, butter-free delicacies are cooked daily using heavy bags of texturized vegetable protein. And it's all free. Mason says he created the "Vegeteria" out of concern for the well-being of his 200 employees of Cat Communications International. "This was a way to say: 'Look, we don't feel it's right to have the flesh of an animal, an animal killed for your benefit,'" Mason said. "I see it no different than smoking. People are asked to go outside and smoke.
Bruce Friedrich, a spokesman for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, says Mason is part of a growing number of vegetarian and vegan CEOS, including Steve Jobs of Apple Computers Inc., Michael Eisner from Walt Disney Co., John Mackey of Whole Foods Market Inc. and Bill Ford of Ford Motor Co., who have made it easier for employees to eat meat-free. "They haven't actually prohibited eating mat, but they've certainly increased exponentially the vegan offerings in their cafeterias," Friedrich said.
Mason, who is a PETA member, wants to go beyond catering to current vegetarians. He sees a person's craving for meat as a nasty habit that can be broken. By providing free vegetarian lunches and stocking the room with information pamphlets about vegetarianism, Mason hopes to nudge his carnivorous employees toward a different lifestyle. Mason, 60, gave up meat about 25 years ago. He said he eased into it after a period of soul-searching about the food on his plate. So far, however, Mason's carnivorous employees have been slow to reform. A few disgruntled employees called a local television station to complain about not being able to bring meat into the Vegeteria. But Mason says they still can eat meat--they just have to take it into another company room. Or they could go out for lunch. "I try to combine as much preaching with living by example," Mason said. "That's why the cafeteria is free. Nobody's forced to eat in the cafeteria. They can go somewhere else. If they want to spend their money, that is their right."

SINGAPORE, November 1, 2004: Thousands of devotees fulfilled their vows by taking part in the annual fire walking festival. It's a key event of the Hindu community, and here in Singapore, it was held in the wee hours of the morning at Sri Mariamman Temple at South Bridge Road. Since 1999 the annual fire walking ceremony has been held in the morning. The chief priest of Sri Mariamman temple carried the Karagam - a pot - containing items of spiritual offerings as he crossed the fire pit first. The successful crossing of the Fire Pit by the Chief Priest is seen as a good omen and an indication of a successful fire walking ceremony. Thousands of male devotees then followed the priest across the fire. Female devotees are only allowed to walk around the pit. It's a four meter long pit filled with red hot charcoal. Days before walking on fire the devotees go on stringent fast and observe a vegetarian diet.

Hi There! you have posted a great article in the web page I just finished reading. You may want to add this info somewhere, as it is devoid of this important findings as well.
The articles under this web page are remarkable. THey missed out few items like the City of UR was where URVASI, the demsel from Hindu Purana lived.
ANd also the city of KARBALA is where VEDAS recited on the banks of Euphrites and Tigris River first;
CIty of QURNAH, was the demon king KARNA, the evil pharaoh lived once.
City of HIndiyah is later moved down to Indus valley where Hindi speaking people originated. HIndi speaking India came out of that city's name in IRAQ!
KEdar River was where LORD KEDARINATH's temple once existed in Mesopotemian times. This river's name is mentioned in bible OT. KETURAH was the wife of KETU as in Raghu and KETU.
BADR is the place where BADRINATH temple once existed in IRAQ, which got demolished when those Hvites became Shiiates. Hvites are called that in Hebrew which means SHIVITES in Sanskrit language.
SADR was also a place where LORD SADASHIVA's temple once existed in IRAQ.
Also about TERAH, the TRIFOLD and his 3 sons~ABRAHM, HARAN and NAHOR.(Bible OT). THis TERAH was the last Saguna or manifested BRAHMANOMAHARISH from Santana Dharma times, who worshipped BYBLOS or MAHA NANDHI and LORD SHIVA mostly.
SAIs Island in Nubian Kingdom where Shirdi SAIBABA's ancestors came from to INdus Valley Western ghat of India back in 1800s. SAIs were kings who were hindus first, Voodoo practioners next and muslims at last before they migrated into MUMBAI region back in 1800s. SAIBABA was born in INDIA during BRITISH times 1836AD.
Why LORD NARAYAN is called "SUMER" NARAYAN? Because the Saguna BRAHMAN HARAN (was no other than NARAYANSELF who was killed by ABRAHM's followers back in 3,000BCE, before Ramayana Times).
NAHOR's followers were relocated to NAGERCOIL in SOUTH and KAALADI is not too far from that place where ADHI S was born, before he travelled up north to meet w aryun Pali speaking Buddhists from Afghanisthan back in 600AD or so. Adhi S's ancestors arrived from Mesopotemia to Nagercoil to build a temple for Shiva back in 2,900BCE.

THE EXPERT PLASTERER
There is a story about an the expert craftsmanship of a plasterer who worked on the construction of the Taj Mahal. One of the top directors of the construction was inspecting the building in progress and noticed for three days in a row a certain plasterer who was sitting in the same place mixing plaster. On the third day the inspector became angry and said, "Why are you still simply sitting and mixing this plaster? You are so lazy!" The man who was mixing the plaster also became very angry, and he threw a handful of his plaster at the inspector. The plaster missed the inspector but landed on a wall. The plaster was so well mixed, however, so solid and hard, that no one could get it off the wall, and it is still there today.
