"New Millinium Travelling Festival is On"
HH Indradyumna Swami has asked me to
inform all of you regarding
the details of the upcoming travelling
festival program on the
South Island of New Zealand. We welcome
as many devotees as would
like to come.
The travelling festival will take place
from January 10th - 30th.
The theme will be 'Spiritual Solutions
to Material Problems'.
We will be meeting various dignitaries
and VIPs along the way to
offer guidance and advice for a new
millenium.
HH Bhakti Bringa Govinda Swami will
also be here, with his melodious
kirtan, and flare for Vaishnava cooking.
To keep costs down and make everything
simple and easy, we will
generally be staying in public campings.
Devotees are expected to
bring their own tents and pay for
their own fees at the camping sites.
In a couple of places (ie: Christchurch
and Dunedin) we will organize
devotee's and friends' homes for free
accomodation.
Devotees must also make their own travel
arrangements. We expect many
devotees to travel by public transportion
from place to place (bus).
In order to make bookings for campings,
we need to know by December
10th (at the latest) exactly how many
adults and children will
be coming ...and for how many days.
It is very important that you
contact me on, or before this date,
if you plan to come. We cannot
guarantee that late reservations will
be accepted.
Everyone who joins us will be asked
to contribute $5 per day for
prasadam, children under 12 will be
free of charge.
We will have incense, blissballs and
stickers available for
distribution, if you need to raise
funds as you go.
All devotees will be required to do
menial tasks to help with
the general running of the festival;
cleaning duties, kitchen
service, bhoga shopping, etc.
Devotees will also be expected to strictly
follow a devotional
morning program.
The planned itinerary is as follows.

Material life, so much cherished by
the nondevotees, is here compared
to a dark hole filled with poisonous
snakes. In material life there
is certainly no clear understanding
of one’s ultimate identity, of
God or of the universe. Everything
is vague and dark. In material
life the poisonous snake of time is
always threatening, and at any
moment our near and dear ones will
be killed by the mortal fangs
of the serpent. Ultimately, we ourselves
will also be bitten and
killed by the poisonous effects of
time. The word sampatitam
indicates that the falldown of the
living entity is complete. In
other words, he cannot get up again.
Sri Uddhava therefore appeals
to the Lord to be kind to these poor
fallen souls, humbly
represented by his own self. If one
receives the Lord’s mercy,
then even without any further qualification
one can go back home,
back to Godhead; and without the mercy
of Lord Krishna, the most
learned, austere, powerful, wealthy
or beautiful man will be
pathetically crushed by the material
world’s machinery of
illusion. The Supreme Personality
of Godhead, as described here,
is mahänubhäva, or the greatest,
most powerful and most merciful
personality, whose influence extends
everywhere. The Lord’s mercy
is manifest in the form of His nectarean
instructions such as
Bhagavad-gitä and the Uddhava-gitä,
being spoken here. The word
kshudra-sukhoru-tarsham reveals the
irony of material existence.
Although material happiness is kshudra,
or ridiculous and
insignificant, our desire to enjoy
it is uru, tremendous. Our
disproportionate hankering to enjoy
dead matter is certainly an
illusory state of mind, and it gives
us constant distress,
keeping us bound up in the dark hole
of material existence.
Every living entity should put aside
his false prestige based on
ephemeral bodily qualifications and
appeal sincerely to the
Supreme Lord, Krishna, for His mercy.
The Lord hears every sincere
appeal, from even the most fallen
soul, and the effects of the
Lord’s mercy are wonderful. Although
jnänis, yogis and fruitive
workers are laboriously endeavoring
to achieve their respective
goals, their position is precarious
and uncertain. Simply by
achieving the mercy of Lord Krishna,
however, one can very easily
attain the highest perfection of life.
If even one who is not a
great or pure devotee of Lord Krishna
sincerely appeals to the
Lord for His mercy, the Lord is sure
to give it generously.

Prabhupäda: Dharma, I have explained,
occupational duty. So long
we have got this material body we
have got particular type of
occupational duty. We are preaching
to the world not any
occupational duty but we are preaching
eternal duty. This
occupational duty is in connection
with the body. That is not
eternal. Suppose this life I’ve got
a body, human body, or
brähmana birth, or a son in the
Rockefeller family, and
according to that body, I have got
a particular type of duty,
standard of living. Deha-yogena dehinäm.
But as soon as the
body’s changed, I get another body,
the whole duty change. Now
I may have a very comfortable body,
American body, Rockefeller
family body, but next life, according
to my karma, we are
preparing our next life. Suppose if
I get the body of a dog,
then my occupational duty will be
(indistinct). Because
according to the body the duty is
changed. So these occupational
duties they are not permanent. But
I am eternal, na hanyate
hanyamäne sharire [Bhagavad gita.
2:20]. By the destruction
of this body, I am not destroyed.
I remain, I simply enter
another body. I, as spiritual soul,
I remain. Just like I’m
entering different bodies in this
life. I was a child, I
enter another body. Just like this
small child, Sarasvati.
According to the body, she is acting.
She’s acting sometimes
nonsense, but we take it delight,
because she is child. But
the same nonsense if I do in another
body, grown up body,
that will be ridiculous. In this child
body, she is naked,
but people enjoy it. But when she
is grown up and she is
lady-like, she is young girl, if she
becomes naked, oh that
is ridiculous. So, here in this life
also we see according
to the change of the body, the duty
is changed. The activities
are changing. So, this body is changing,
that’s a fact.
Tathä dehäntara-präptir
dhiras tatra na muhyati [Bhagavad gita.
2:13]. Just like in this life we are
changing different types
of bodies, similarly dehäntara-präptir,
another body. These
rascals, they do not understand the
simple reasoning.
Simple logic they cannot understand,
still they argue,
“What is the proof there is transmigration
of the soul?” Here
is the proof. That this child, Sarasvati,
when she is a
grown-up lady she’ll not act like
that. But everyone will
accept her, Sarasvati, the same character
(?). Her father,
mother, relatives, everything is there,
Sarasvati has got
another body. So what is the difficulty
to understand this
logic? That the soul is immortal and
the body is changing.
What is the difficulty? Just try to
understand, you have to
preach immortality of the soul, transmigration
of the soul.
What is the difficulty? Simple logic.
What is the difficulty?

you be able to convince

Ignorant persons often think that
renounced spiritual life is
meant for those who are impotent or
homely or incompetent in
practical worldly affairs. Sometimes
foolish people say that
religious life is a crutch for those
who are not expert enough
to achieve a high status in society.
Therefore King Yadu has
described the qualities of the mendicant
brähmana in order to
show that the brähmana has taken
to renounced spiritual life
in spite of great potential for worldly
success. The avadhüta
brähmana is described as being
expert, learned, good-looking,
eloquent and in every sense qualified
to be a great material
success. Still, the avadhüta
has renounced material life and
taken to Krishna consciousness. Going
back home, back to Godhead,
for an eternal life of bliss and knowledge
is the real work
of a human being.
The followers of Lord Caitanya Mahäprabhu
simultaneously
cultivate their own Krishna consciousness
and strenuously
endeavor in missionary work to help
others become Krishna
conscious.
Often foolish persons deride the devotees
by saying, “Why don’t
you get a job?” They think that one
who is sincerely endeavoring
for spiritual enlightenment and who
is also enlightening others
is not doing anything practical. Foolish
materialists will pay
millions of dollars to extend their
lives by a few weeks or
months in a hospital, but they do
not appreciate someone
endeavoring for eternal life. There
is no actual logic in
material life. The act of trying to
enjoy without Krishna is
in itself the culmination of irrationality,
and thus we cannot
expect to find anything ultimately
rational or logical in a
materialistic life devoid of Krishna
consciousness. Many
devotees of Krishna come from wealthy,
learned and influential
families, and they take to Krishna
consciousness in order to
perfect their lives, and certainly
not due to lack of
opportunity for material advancement.
Although sometimes
persons in material distress approach
the Supreme Lord for
help in material life, a real devotee
of Lord Krishna
voluntarily gives up all types of
material enjoyment,
knowing that nothing but love of Krishna
and service to
His lotus feet are the actual perfection
of life."

INGREDIENTS:
1/3 cup light pasteurized process
cream cheese product - Philli'
(from 8-oz container)
1/8 tsp dried dill weed
1/2 tsp hing powder
4 (6 to 7-inch) flour tortillas
1/4 cup shredded carrots
1/4 cup chopped fresh broccoli
DIRECTIONS:
In small bowl, combine cream cheese
product, dill and
hing powder; blend well. Spread about
1 Tbsp cream cheese mixture
on each tortilla; top each with carrot,
and broccoli.
Roll up each tortilla; cut each in
half.
Nutritional Analysis:
Yield: 8 (one roll-up) Servings

450g 1 lb 4 cups white self-raising
flour

tsp. ground cloves
½ tsp. ½ tsp. ½
tsp. freshly ground black pepper
100g 4 oz ½ cup butter
225g 8 oz 1 cup brown sugar
75g 3 oz ½ cup seedless
raisins
75g 3 oz ½ cup currants
2 tbs. 2 tbs. 2 tbs. cut mixed
peel
175g 6 oz ½ cup golden
syrup, warmed
4 tbs. 4 tbs. 4 tbs. sour cream
250ml 8 fl. oz 1 cup skimmed
milk
butter for greasing
Preheat the oven to 160C/325F/gas
mark 3
Use a deep 18cm/7 inch square cake
tin.
Sift the flour, spices and black pepper
into a mixing bowl.
Rub in the butter until the mixture
resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Stir in the sugar and add the fruit
and peel. Make a well
in the flour mixture. Pour in the
syrup, sour cream and
milk and beat lightly.
Spoon the mixture into the prepared
tin and bake for 2 ½
hours or until cooked through and
firm to the touch.
Cool on a wire rack.

tsp. bicarb.
50g 2 oz ½ cup walnuts,
chopped
75g 3 oz ½ cup dried
apricots, chopped
2 tbs. 2 tbs 2 tbs. golden syrup
2 tbs. 2 tbs. 2 tbs. malt extract
2 tbs. 2 tbs. 2 tbs. brown
sugar
150ml ¼ pint ½
cup milk
ICING AND DECORATION:
METRIC IMP. US.
100g 4 oz 1 cup icing sugar,
sifted
2 tsp. 2 tsp. 2 tsp. hot water
(approximately)
50g 2 oz ¼ cup glacé
cherries, quartered
Preheat the oven to 160C/325F/gas
mark 3
Use a 20cm/8 inch ring tin.
Thoroughly grease and flour the ring
tin. Sift the flour,
allspice, baking powder and bicarb.
together into a bowl.
Stir in the walnuts and apricots.
Warm the syrup, malt and
sugar in a pan over low heat. Add
the milk. Make a well in
the centre of the dry ingredients
and pour in the syrup
mixture. Beat well to give a smooth,
soft dropping consistency.
Pour into the prepared tin and bake
in the centre of the
preheated oven for 1 - 1 ¼
hours or until golden brown and
firm. Carefully turn out onto a wire
rack to cool.
Icing and Decoration: Combine the icing
sugar with enough
hot water to give a thick, spreading
consistency. Pour over
the ring. Decorate with glacé
cherries.
Makes one 8 inch ring cake

You can tell that it's a strange world
where the governments of
some countries are trying to ban fireworks
to protect little
children and animals while they are
at the same time engaged in
research and manufacturing of nuclear
bombs, propergating
violence on TV, open and maintain
huge slaughter houses,
allow freedom of choice on abortions,
lower the legal age
of concent, and even take taxes from
the use of alcohol,
cigarettes and other drugs and substances
of addiction and
abuse made available for use by their
citizens.

"Ha, only vegetarian food available."
the lodge keeper replied.
"Is there a dhobi?" they asked.
"Yes, dhobi is available."
"Can we arrange transport to take
us on pilgrimage tomorrow?"
"Ha, transport, available." the lodge
keeper said.
"Are there many mosquitoes here?"
"Ha, Mosquitoes also available." replied
the lodge keeper.

At Vege Burger Bar an elderly couple
ordered one vege-burger, one
order of fries and one 7UP with two
glasses.
When they got to their booth, the man
placed a napkin in front
of himself and one in front of his
wife, then proceeded to
divide the fries, cut the burger in
half and divided the 7UP
equally.
A gentleman nearby noticed and offered
to buy them another
vege-burger, fries and 7UP.
The woman then said, "No, no you don't
understand. We've been
married over 50 years and all our
life we agreed to split
everything right down the middle."
Her husband then began eating, as she
sat with her hands in
her lap patiently waiting.
The gentleman nearby noticed and asked
the lady why she wasn't
eating. Thinking that it must be something
to do with her
showing her chastity or old fashioned
submission to her
husband he asked her if it was so.
She replied, "As I said before, we
split everything right down
the middle, and it's his day to use
the teeth first."
