Can you trust what your eyes see to be real?

........last updated 19th October 2011 can you see that?

It's a cube, isn't it?
Or is it just a flat drawing of some lines?
Would you recognize it as a cube if you had never seen a cube,
or if you had never seen a drawing of a cube?

Is the shape inside a square or curved, which way does the books face - toward or away?

LOOK at the camels first and then read the message below.

This is a picture taken from directly above these camels in the desert at sunset. It is considered to be one of the best pictures of the year.
When you look closely, you can see that the camels are the little white lines in the picture.
The black images you see are just the shadows!

Sometimes, our "problems" seem to be as big as the shadows...but they are little. Have a lovely day!
LOOK ONCE MORE. YOU CANNOT BELIEVE IT, RIGHT?

The Right Brain vs Left Brain test … do you see the dancer turning clockwise or anti-clockwise?

You have to click through on the link above to see it. Please do so before continuing to read.

To me at first it was clearly going clockwise. I had my wife come over and look at it and she saw it going counterclockwise. She was very skeptical it could be perceived as being any other way.

She asked what that meant. As I was reading the list to her, a very left brain activity, to my surprise I saw out of the corner of my eye that the dancer had changed direction. It stayed that way until I started to surmise how the thing works and bingo! it starting going clockwise again.

My wife’s niece is visiting and she also saw it change direction. Eventually so did my wife.

This is a very clear proof that consciousness colors perception.

For another perspective on this:

Bring on the dancing girl

See "What this dancer says about you" on YouTube.com

Now check out this page and notice that you can actually change the way that they spin, clock-wise or anti-clockwise.

Now ponder this, how by seeing things differently as a Krishna conscious devotee, the same world can be seen differently. Prabhupad would use the example of a surgical scalple in the hands of a trained doctor could do the greatest good in saving someone's life, but the same knife in the hands of a maniac do do the opposite and take someone's life. Similary the world that we live in can be the sourse of enlightenment for the Krishna conscious devotee, or the source of degradation for the selfish mundaner, it is the same world, only the seer sees things differently.

....... of course the ultimate and most obvious to some is the paradigm twist that is the nature of this world, where what is real seems illusive and what is illusory is readily accepted by the mass of the population as real.

As in the picture below it is sometimes represented as an upside down Banyan tree where the roots are seen to appear to grow upwards or the branches downwards, it spreads far and wide and no-one knows where the beginning or the end of the tree is, it appears as though one tree and appears to be the canopy for which all others are sustained and rests. Some aspects of the tree can be seen by some due to their different modes, while others freed from the imposing blinkers of the material modes can see the tree as it is.

How to see the tree depends on the vision of the seer, where to focus one's vision for instance that depends upon one's nature, you can try it here.

One thing that one needs to be extremely careful with here is not to merely get caught up with the functioning of the dancer or the functioning detail of the what is going on in the world, or the actual incision in the cutting of the knife. Action is the end result of motive and intent of a particular nature. That means that due to the consciousness of "the doer", whether they are in spiritual consciousness understanding themselves as spiritual beings possessing a body and temporarily living in the material world, or that they think they are that body and the various possessions and extensions of it in the world, they see accordingly.

From our perception of who we are; ie Ego or False-ego we generate our building blocks of perception.

With discriminative intelligence we accept certain things and reject other things, according to those choices that the mind has perceived and enacted out with inner vision on the mental platform or stage, visualizing, thinking, feeling, and willing things to be so. The active senses then attempt to execute those ideas into external reality from the images of the mind. Those things which we associate with mostly in the mind when repeated will in due course come to fruition.

Association is of most vital importance, as is freedom of choice to choose. As we repeatedly choose to do something or other we are known by others as possing a certain character. "A man is known by the company he keeps" (saying) That association influences the choices we make.
If we associate with Guru, Scripture(s) and saintly devotees, we will make spiritual choices.
If we associate with drunkards, lusty persons, merciless or greedy persons we'd make more material choices.
That character is based on the conscious choices that we made based on our developed nature as shown herein.
How we see the world then is based upon this development.

The matrix of Reality and Illusion exist side by side. Both can be experienced and "touched" as tangible reality.

Sometimes the material world is also philosophically represented symbolically as an tree reflected in water. The tree is itself real, just as there is a place where plesure exists that doesn't accrue painful karmas or klesha sufferings, but the material world is a reflection of that original spiritual realm - bimba pratibimba bhav. The tree reflected in the water is real, that there is no doubt, but to try to enjoy it in the water is an illusion and will only bring frustration, anger and bewilderment.

As stated in Brahma samhita chapter 5 verses 56-57

"I worship that transcendental realm known as çvetadvépa, where as loving consorts the Laksmis in their unalloyed spiritual essence practice the amorous service of the Supreme Lord, Krishna, as their only lover, where every tree is a transcendental purpose tree, where the soil is made of purpose gems, where the water is nectar, where every word is a song and every step a dance, where the flute is the favorite attendant, where effulgence is full of transcendental bliss, and the supreme spiritual entities are all enjoyable and tasty, where numberless milk cows always emit transcendental oceans of milk, and where there is eternal existence of transcendental time, which is ever present and without past or future and hence not subject to passing away even for the space of half a moment.  That realm is known as Goloka only to a very few self-realized souls in this world."

See a picture of the Banyan tree in Calcutta (Kolkata) India that is reputed to be the world's largest http://www.wou.edu/~lincics/India98/calcutta.htm

BIGGEST OF THEM ALL: The biggest Banyan tree in the country is in the Indian Botanic Garden, Howrah, in West Bengal .The tree is now 232+ years old (2004) and looks more like a mini forest than a single tree. This, tree has spread over 22165-sq. m area with several branches and more than 2800 prop roots. The average girth of some of the prop roots ranges from 20-260 cm. It has even occupied a place in the Guinness Book of World Record in 1985.

http://www.4to40.com/earth/geography/index.asp?article=earth_geography_trees

The tree grows numerous aerial roots, roots which grow downwards from the tree much like branches. Once these reach the ground , they in turn take root on the earth , sending out more branches and roots in turn. This way one tree can spread itself out so far and wide covering a large area.

Funny paradigms:

One day, while a woodcutter was cutting a branch of a tree  above a river, his axe fell into the river.  When he cried out, God appeared and asked, "Why are you crying?"  The woodcutter replied that his axe has fallen into water. God went down into the water and reappeared with a golden axe.

"Is this your axe?" God asked.

 The woodcutter replied, "No."

God again went down and came up with a silver axe. "Is this your axe?" God asked.

 Again, the woodcutter replied, "No."

God went down again and came up with an iron axe.

"Is this your axe?" God asked.

 The woodcutter replied, "Yes."

God was pleased with the man's honesty and gave him three  axes to keep, and the woodcutter went home happily.

One day while he was walking with his wife along the riverbank, the woodcutter's wife fell into the river. When he cried out, God appeared and asked him, "Why are you crying?"

"Oh Lord, my wife has fallen into the water."

God went down into the water and came up with Jennifer Lopez.

"Is this your wife?" God asked.

 "Yes," replied the woodcutter.

God was furious. "You cheat!  That is an untruth," God scolded. The woodcutter replied, "Oh, forgive me my Lord.  It is a misunderstanding. You see, if I said 'no' to Jennifer Lopez, you will come up with Catherine Zeta Jones.  Then if I also say 'no' to her, You will thirdly come up with my wife, and I will say 'yes,' and then all three will be given to me. But Lord, I am a poor man and I will not be able to take care of all three wives, so that's why I said 'yes' this time."
